Resumen
ROESLER, Ignacio y MAZAR BARNETT, Juan. New records of the Broad-winged Hawk (Buteo platypterus) in Argentina. Hornero [online]. 2004, vol.19, n.1, pp.37-40. ISSN 0073-3407.
The Broad-winged Hawk is a migratory raptor that breeds in North America and spends the non-breeding season in northern South America, and throughout the Andes. Only one observation had been reported so far in Argentina, in Calilegua National Park, Jujuy Province. Here we report four additional records of the Broad-winged Hawk from this same locality, and present information regarding their habitat and plumage. We analyze the morphology and plumage of this species and compare it with those of similar coexisting species. In addition, we evaluate these records in the light of the species' known South American distribution. Our observations extend the southern distribution range of the Broad-winged Hawk 500 km south of its previously known range.
