Resumen

DE SOUZA, César Martins  y  RUFFINI, Martha. Dictatorship, state power and large projects in marginal regions. The Brazilian Amazon and the Patagonia Argentina during the 1960s. Folia [online]. 2022, n.43, pp.81-106. ISSN 0325-8238.  http://dx.doi.org/10.30972/fhn.0435846.

In Latin America, the 1960s and 1970s were characterized by dictatorial regimes that sought to avoid questioning domination through social control, in alliance with national and transnational interests whose objective wasthe expansion of capitalism. Both in Brazil, since 1964 and in Argentina, since 1966, the military governments tried to make power visible through large projects located mainly in areas considered marginal. In the Brazilian Amazon as in the Argentinian Patagonia, the megaprojects were part of an ideological construct destined to redefine those spaces as a piece of an economic growth policy. The official discourse based on the premise of progress, greatness, and national development was aimed at legitimizing the dictatorship and to increase social consensus. This article is based on primary sources, mainly presidential speeches, magazine articles and official documentation from national and international organizations.

Palabras clave : Patagonia; Amazonia; Dictatorship; Speech; Megaprojects.
