Resumen

FRIAS, M; LANDI, H; MONTES, D  y  PALMA PARODI, F. Comparative analysis of health and cost of fresh cow in dairy herds. InVet [online]. 2011, vol.13, n.2, pp.17-23. ISSN 1668-3498.

Monitoring the transition cow is fundamental for early detection of diseases. The objective was to evaluate the incidence and cost of events in the period “calved cow” on a dairy farm in Tandil and compare with results of the Clave group. Postpartum milk production, attitude, body temperature, rumen function, trans-rectal palpation, mammary gland and locomotion score were monitored daily for 12-14 days in 240 Holstein cows and 102 heifers during the 3 months from 01/03/2010. The pre partum diet was corn silage, barley grain, hay and commercial mineral salt; during the postpartum transition (12-14 days) the diet was corn silage, pasture hay, pasture and concentrate. The statistical analysis was performed by calculating Chi². Higher values were observed in metritis/ endometritis and lower values in podal diseases on dairy farm, compared with the Clave group. On the dairy farm there were differences (p <0.05) in assisted birth and hypocalcemia/ Mg recovered between categories. Loss of production, discarded milk and costs of treatment were assessed, adapting the methodology of the Clave group and setting milk prices and the US dollar to 06/2011; It was concluded that the information from the Clave group is a useful parameter to assess the health status and estimated economic losses of the herd.

Palabras clave : Diseases; Monitoring; Post calving; Cost; Dairy cows.
