Resumen

HURTADO, Diego. Techno-political and sectorial culture in a semi-peripheral context: nuclear development in Argentina (1945-1994). Rev. iberoam. cienc. tecnol. soc. [online]. 2012, vol.7, n.21, pp.163-192. ISSN 1850-0013.

Considering Argentina as a semi-peripheral country, the present article analyzes the establishment of a nuclear culture and a nuclear technopolitical regime -aimed at seeking technological autonomy and regional leadership as well as the promotion of a national nuclear industry- that have the Argentine Atomic Energy Commission as institutional epicenter and kept some of their main traits and orientation until the beginnings of the 1990s. The article focuses mainly on three aspects: the development of nuclear research reactors; the processes of decision-making about the purchase and construction of the country's two power nuclear plants; and the way the various political regimes that Argentina went through -democratic, semi-democratic and dictatorial periods- and regimes of accumulation -sustitutive industrialization and, since the last military dictatorship, economic deregulation- impacted and left their mark on the evolution of the nuclear technopolitical regime. Within this last point, international pressures are assumed as a crucial component.
