Resumen

MIGUEZ, Linda Jezabel; LAMENZA, Guillermo  y  PLISCHUK, Marcos. Arqueología forense. Primeras experiencias en un cementerio contemporáneo (La Plata, Argentina). Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2022, vol.23, suppl.1, pp.23-34. ISSN 1850-373X.  http://dx.doi.org/https://doi.org/10.37176/iea.23.especial1.2022.715.

The possibility of carrying out controlled excavations in historical-contemporary cemeteries allows the development of lines of research in forensic archaeology. Accordingly, the objective of this work is to present the first advances in the analysis of natural and anthropic alterations in the skeleton and the mortuary record in this kind of burials. This is possible through the realization of controlled exhumations in the Municipal Cemetery of La Plata and the evaluation of the post-depositional processes observed in the skeletal remains of the collection "Prof. Dr. Rómulo Lambre'' (Faculty of Medical Sciences of the National University of La Plata). On average, the estimated conservation index was more than 50%, this value being higher in those exhumations carried out systematically by our work team as opposed to the remains of the collection that were recovered by cemetery staff. In turn, the presence of roots as the main taphonomic agent was evidenced, as well as the appearance of adipocere, greenish stains and remains of plastic or cloth belonging to wrappers as relevant variables in the analysis of the remains. We hold that the information obtained, added to the knowledge of the dates of death and the elapsed time until the moment of exhumation, will make it possible to provide useful criteria for forensic contexts associated with regional conditions and the action of natural and cultural taphonomic agents.
