Resumen

DA SILVA JUNQUEIRA, Sonia Maria  y  MANRIQUE, Ana Lúcia. Licentiate in Mathematics in Brazil: historical aspects of its constitutionitle. Rev. electrón. investig. educ. cienc. [online]. 2013, vol.8, n.1, pp.42-51. ISSN 1850-6666.

The objective of this paper is to present a historical overview in order to discuss the things that have remained the same and those that have changed in Licentiate in Mathematics courses in Brazil, especially as regards the constitution of their identity. We undertake a qualitative analysis, by means of a bibliographical revision through a Baumanian lens, as we understand that Bauman's notion of the passage from solid to liquid form provides an appropriate dynamic, which we aim to achieve as this study takes shape. This paper takes a linear path, from the Jesuits' teachings until today. Through the aspects of different historical contexts, we present a panorama of the teaching of Mathematics in Brazil and its place in higher education. As such, the limitations stemming from the inflexibility of the relevant legislations and the influence of reformatory movements, especially the Modern Mathematics Movement, are pointed out, considering that all of these aspects have strongly contributed to the current identity of these courses. This study confirms conflicting elements seen in different tensions located in distinct historical periods, no doubt sparked by moments of true intention to innovate the teaching of mathematics in Brazil, but it also shows that there is still much ground to be covered and that many of the problems encountered throughout the history of these courses remain essentially the same.
