Anatomical study and distribution of proteic and lipidic reserves in different seeds' sizes of Cuphea glutinosa (Lythraceae). Cuphea glutinosa Cham et Schltdl., autochthonous species from the Sierras Pampeanas of Argentina, it produces a high number of seeds with abundant reserves in protein (PB) and oil bodies (OB) of its cotyledonal tissues. The objective of the present work was to determine anatomical details of seeds, characteristics of the covers, cellular volumes and number and size of PB and OB present in palisade and spongy parenchyma, and epidermal cotiledons of two sizes' seeds. The weight of 1,000 big and small seeds was 1,011 ± 0.003586 g and 0,557 ± 0.002698 g respectively. The study was made on SEM photographs using the Image J 1.40 software. The results were statistically analyzed. Cuphea glutinosa presents a remarkable seed cover with cubical cells around the embryo. Cotyledons shows an anatomy similar to that of the adult leaf, with considerable differences in cellular volumes among tissues of both kind of seeds. The seeds' size was irrespective of the PB and OB sizes. Although, the distribution was very strongly influenced, because the big seeds accumulate their reserves mainly in PB and the small seeds in OB, with little variation in their energy contents, in spite of the great variation in seeds' size.
