Resumen
MURUA, M. Gabriela et al. Efficacy of maize Herculex® I in controlling Spodoptera frugiperda (Smith) (Lep.: Noctuidae) under field conditions, in the Northwest of Argentina. Rev. ind. agric. Tucumán [online]. 2013, vol.90, n.1, pp.37-43. ISSN 1851-3018.
The efficacy of Herculex ® I (HXI) corn in controlling Spodoptera frugiperda (Smith) was assessed by taking samples from HXI plants in Santiago del Estero province (Argentina) and evaluating two treatments: plants damaged by S. frugiperda and plants undamaged by the fall armyworm. In the vegetative stage, evaluations were made using Davis scale, and in the reproductive stage the presence of larvae and instars was recorded. In general, the two treatments showed that at the end of the vegetative stage, more than 96% of plants presented no damage, while damage type 4-9 never exceeded 1.5%. During the reproductive stage, 683 larvae were detected on the leaves or ears. Larvae found were small (84.8%) and medium (15.2%), but not large. The results reported above showed that TC 1507 Herculex ® I (HXI) controlled S. frugiperda efficiently, so it can be considered an important tool for its management.
