Resumen

MONCET, D  y  ISAAC, GB. Simultaneous Association of Pituitary Adenoma and Meningioma: Report of Three Cases. Rev. argent. endocrinol. metab. [online]. 2015, vol.52, n.1, pp.29-34. ISSN 1851-3034.

Ninety percent of tumors of the sellar region are pituitary adenomas; and meningiomas account for 15-25 % of all intracranial neoplasms. A simultaneous association of both tumors without a history of brain radiotherapy is rarely observed. We report 3 cases of pituitary adenoma simultaneously associated with meningioma that constitute a high rate of 3.2 % at our private institution: the first one was Cushing’s disease associated with an angiomatous meningioma of the posterior fossa; the second was a nonfunctioning pituitary adenoma with a meningioma of the posterior fossa and the third one was an acromegaly associated with a frontal metaplastic meningioma and agenesis of the right internal carotid artery. All patients underwent surgery; in the first 2 patients, tumors were removed in 2 consecutive operations and in the third one, in the same surgical procedure. All tumors were confirmed in pathology reports. No further complications were recorded during or after surgery and no recurrence of the tumors involved was observed during follow-up.
