Resumen

In this work, data collected from the National Census held in 2001 and information published by the Council of Education of the Province of Río Negro in past years, were used in order to calculate several educative indicators which allow us to infer tendencies and reflect on them. The rate of pureand functional illiteracy, the gross and net of schooling according to several ages, the rate of over age students attending every grade, the rate of desertion and the level of instruction reached by the population of the province are displayed in tables and comparative graphics. This work constitutes a preliminary approach to the analysis of a very complex educative reality. This is the starting point from which we can approximate to the evaluation of the more relevant objectives of the educational system which are equity, efficiency and quality.
