Resumen
VAZQUEZ, María Celia. The political process between 1955 and the 70s through the consecutive editions of Imperialism and culture by Juan José Hernández Arregui. Rev. Pilquen [online]. 2005, n.7. ISSN 1851-3123.
In 1957, Juan José Hernández Arregui publishes his book Imperialismo y cultura (Imperialism and Culture), a response to the post-Peronist situation, that was re-printed several times for more than a decade. Hernández Arregui himself writes the forewords for each re-printing (1957, 1964, and 1973) that appear together in the 1973 re-print. The subsequent forewords introduce the book as a kind of work in progress through which the ideological and personal political program achieved in the 16 years that elapse between the first and the last print, as well as a panoramic view of the evolution of the national and popular field in Argentina, are simultaneously outlined. From a rhetorical perspective, the forewords resemble the introductions of argumentative discourse, since both appeared as the ideal space for the self-reflexive practice of the author's image as well as of the subject studied. We shall find out by which strategies the image of the essay writer is configured as a committed intellectual who keeps custody of the national truths; which are bound to persuade the proto-addresse, that in the '60s is identified with the university youth that mostly prefers the national and popular field.
