Resumen

CARRARD, Philippe. Chartier and Narration. Outline of a Route. Prismas [online]. 2022, vol.26, n.2, pp.168-176.  Epub 05-Nov-2022. ISSN 1852-0499.  http://dx.doi.org/10.48160/18520499prismas26.1305.

Within a formalist perspective and in the framework of the main problems posed by writing for the epistemology of history, the aim of the article is to try to establish what kind of continuity Roger Chartier’s conceptual and practical position on “story” or “narration” has had throughout his work. From this, two major questions arise: to what extent does every written representation of the data collected by the historian translate into a narrative; on the other hand, to what extent the narrative genre is compatible with the demands of scientific rigor imposed by the discipline. In accordance with a regressive analysis of the texts that Chartier devoted to this topic, the aim is to determine at what point the historian began to consider the problems of writing and whether, in fact, the theoretical premises he offers to situate “narration” in the historical operation are compatible with the type of narrative he uses in his own research.
