FLORES CONI, Josefina. TECNOLOGÍA DE PARAPETOS EN PATAGONIA MERIDIONAL: EL CASO DE LA MESETA DEL STROBEL. Relaciones [online]. 2019, vol.44, n.1, pp.1-10. ISSN 0325-2221.
This article synthesizes research carried out in the Strobel plateau (Santa Cruz Province, Southern Patagonia) based on the study of stone structures called parapetos. There´s a high frequency of these structures in the area, where 368 parapetos have been registered. They exhibit different dimensions, morphologies and locations. The presence of different grouping modalities and the association with lithic artifacts is highlighted. This work discusses the characteristics of parapetos by analyzing a sample 184 of them. Thus, the objective is to establish their possible function in a context of logistical and seasonal use of the area during Late Holocene. Their characteristics and association with certain lithic artifacts imply their use in hunting contexts. Moreover, their variability allows discussing provisioning and planning strategies implemented in the Strobel plateau.
