CAETANO, Gerardo. Novelties and radicalism of the uruguayan «alternative rights» in recent times: The case of Cabildo Abierto. Estud. - Cent. Estud. Av., Univ. Nac. Córdoba [online]. 2023, n.49, pp.29-54. ISSN 1852-1568.

Abstract There is a whole global and regional context that tends to support the notion that the rise of the so-called «new right» or «alternative rights» constitutes one of the most emblematic phenomena of our time. The question regarding how new and how radical these unexpectedly growing players are always comes back in order to compare similarities and differences. From this analytical focus, this article seeks to present and challenge the case of Cabildo Abierto, the newest and also the most challenging party/ movement presented by current Uruguayan politics. Its origins and background are analyzed, the profiles of its leader and its main leaders, its most outstanding definitions and some of its relevant performances throughout its short history, from its participation in the 2019 electoral process to its immediate integration into the government coalition led by President Lacalle Pou since March 2020.

Palabras clave : Uruguay; Cabildo Abierto; new right.
