GABIN DE SARDOY, María de las Mercedes. Diet food products in modern society: Their usefulness and impact on hypocaloric diet in adults. Diaeta [online]. 2009, vol.27, n.128, pp.7-14. ISSN 1852-7337.
Modern society overestimates body aesthetics and the concept of slimness is associated with professional success and happiness. Many factors have led to a decrease in daily energy consumption and an increased intake of industrialized and outside-the-home foods. The food industry responded to this problem through the development of numerous food products that are low in calories, fats and carbohydrates. This paper aims at setting the difference in lipid and energy content between regular and diet versions of frequently consumed food products, to determine their usefulness in weight loss. It was observed that the consumption of several diet foods helps maintaining harmony between macronutrients, keeping a normal distribution of them and lowering the TCV about 20% for the equivalent adult, thus being useful in hypocaloric plans for losing weight in adults.
