New questions, as the political culture of a period, are added to constitutional, institutional and military stud ie s and to the history of political thought. Political culture is considered as a set of practices, representations and attitudes about politics, that articulate and frame the actions of the subjects being in turn transformed by the actions of these . One of the most important elements of the political culture of a group is the political vocabulary used to interpret reality and take their actions. In this sense, the history of concepts becomes an essential tool for this analysis. This discipline involve s analyzing the words that meet various levels of meaning in lexical, semantic and pragmatic. The aim of this work is to investigate the concepts of "liberal / liberalism" in Mendoza, between 1852 and 1880. A catalogue of polysemy and ambiguity of concepts which condense issue s around the political system of popular sovereignty and administration of suffrage, among others, will be tried. To perform the work, the corpus will be constituted by leading newspapers of the period (El Constitucional y El Tupungato).
