Resumen

CONTE, Diego. Combat duty in young/minors, Buenos Aires 1850-1880. Rev. hist. derecho [online]. 2017, n.54, pp.1-10. ISSN 1853-1784.

In the mid-nineteenth century, the mobilization of young people -understood as minors- was a recurrent practice of both, provincial and national authorities. Thus, it is not difficult to find in the documents, laws and provincial decrees in reference to boys who were providing military service in the border defense and participating in the civil wars. The ways that led the minors to bear arms were varied and heterogeneous. In the military orders of that period there was an overlapping of situations ranging from obtaining rights and criminalization of vagabonds to the guardianship of orphans and abandoned ones. This process was signed by the codification of the civil law which coexisted with the precepts of precoded law. The updating of the legal status of minors tended to modify the modalities in which young people provided the military service. At the same time, in the period 1850-1880 political, social, ideological and material changes began to be imposed, which transformed institutional mediation during the childhood. All mentioned causes combined gave a singularity to the period that marked the relationship of youth people with military service.
