Resumen

FERRARI, Mónica  y  BRUNA, Luis. Disappearance and survival of mining town: Veta Mina and El Molino in El Aguilar, Jujuy, Argentina. Cuad. urbano [online]. 2021, vol.31, n.31, pp.165-165. ISSN 1853-3655.  http://dx.doi.org/10.30972/crn.31315783.

In the northwest of the Department of Humahuaca, Jujuy province, is located the mining complex that makes up the town of El Aguilar, the second highest human settlement in the Argentine Republic, from which lead, zinc and silver have been extracted for 91 years. The objective of this research was to carry out urban readings of a village in ruins –Veta Mina– and another in danger of disappearance –El Molino– in order to characterize its structure, functions and urban landscape. The interest consisted of obtaining the knowledge to preserve a valuable industrial legacy located in the buffer area of the site declared World Heritage Site in the Quebrada of Humahuaca. Methodologically, we worked on a comparative analysis between satellite cartography, published images and key data. Its historical past and its urban-industrial heritage are made visible as instruments of knowledge in the face of the aforementioned threat.

Palabras clave : Mining towns; urban readings; Veta Mina; El Molino; El Aguilar.
