Resumen

PEREZ ZORRILLA, Julia. La regulación de la jornada docente en perspectiva comparada: los casos de Argentina, Brasil, Chile y Uruguay. Propuesta educativa (Online) [online]. 2016, n.45, pp.10-20. ISSN 1995-7785.

Nowadays, experts, bureaucrats, parents and students place new and multiple responsibilities on the shoulder of middle school teachers. In that context, in many Latin American countries teachers positions are still assigned and paid according to lecture hours. This stimulates teacher absenteeism and staff rotation. Additionally, it undermines teachers’ commitment to schools and to students learning. This article describes and compares regulations regarding the hiring and payment of teachers in four Latin American countries. It also shows that while in Argentina and Uruguay teaching positions are assigned according to lecture hours, Chile and Brazil have reformed their teachers’ statutes. In the latter countries, teachers’ salaries now include lecture hours and class preparation time.

Palabras clave : Regulation of teacher’s work; Argentina; Brazil; Chile; Uruguay.
