The agricultural expansion in Uruguay, have been sustained mainly on the soybean crop with new companies, using production models different from those used by the traditional farmer, technological innovations such as zero tillage and GMO crops. This cuases a strong increase in macroeconomic indicators such as GDP and VBP, but at the same time has generated other social effects mainly changes in the land ownership (concentration and sharp changes in the land value) and exclusion of small farmers among the most evident. This article goes forward the analysis of agricultural changes in the new century, trying to understand the process of the most dynamic sector in our country.
