Resumen

FIGUEREDO, Soledad  y  BIANCO, Mariela. Organización del trabajo agrícola en el contexto de agriculturización en dos territorios uruguayos. Pampa [online]. 2014, n.10, pp.173-192. ISSN 2314-0208.

The main objective of this study is to analyze the characteristics of agricultural employment in Uruguay in a context of expanding agriculture area. A multiple case study was designed based on two territories with different agricultural history: Dolores and Durazno. This study adopted a qualitative approach in order to understand the logic and rationality of relevant social actors. Through interviews and observation of working days, the main features of the way labor is organized in agriculture were identified. Results show that labor mediation is a central phenomenon for the understanding of labor allocation in agriculture. Two main types of employment were identified, the unskilled workers, i.e. temporarily hired workers with partial activity in agriculture combined with other activities and periods of inactivity, and full-time specialized agricultural workers, i.e. permanent employees but with intermittent periods of seasonal activities. The concept of permanent seasonality in labor is proposed to synthesize the characteristics of the occupational insertion of specialized agricultural workers.

Palabras clave : Outsourcing; Extensive agriculture; Employment; Uruguay.
