MENDEZ SASTOQUE, Marlon Javier y JURADO GALLEGO, Gloria Esperanza. La universidad en la promoción de procesos de desarrollo local: reflexiones alrededor del proyecto «Universidad en el Campo». Pampa [online]. 2016, n.13, pp.115-126. ISSN 2314-0208.
It reflects on the role of universities in promoting local development processes, through the analysis of a particular case: the project «University in the country», experience that joined six universities around a common aim: generating processes of development through the design and implementation of a program of higher education for rural youth in poverty, In four Latin American countries (Colombia, Bolivia, Mexico and Nicaragua). The analysis identified four main social roles: a) the university as increaser of the cooperative actions, b) the university as empower of the local social tissue, c) the university as expander of circles of relationships, and d) the university as promoter of development networks. We conclude that contribute to reinforcement the local capacities for development management is the main contribution of university extension to social transformation.
