In this article, we are interested in addressing the impact that the egalitarian and emancipatory approaches promoted by the first feminist movements in Uruguay had on men, in relation to changes in gender dynamics. To achieve this, the different ways in which male resistance took place, are examined. The symptoms of the crisis of "hegemonic masculinity" are also identified and the mechanisms used to overcome it are explored. However, it is important to highlight that some men supported the women's demands and demonstrated positive sensitivity towards the changes they implied for traditional masculinity. Therefore, we will also address the emergence of new masculinities as another relevant aspect.
