CARRASCO SANGACHE, Washington Fernando; GARCIA MITACEK, María Carla  y  STORNELLI, María Alejandra. Métodos contraceptivos en gatas: pasado, presente y futuro. Analecta vet. [online]. 2022, vol.42, n.1, e065. ISSN 1514-2590.  http://dx.doi.org/https://doi.org/10.24215/15142590e065.

Temporary non-surgical reproductive control in queens is essential to avoid unwanted litter and therefore, reduce overpopulation and its negative consequences. Several drugs have been studied to this end, including progestins, androgens, melatonin, GnRH analogs, and contraceptive vaccines. Some of them have shown good results, although in certain cases the duration of the contraceptive effect is not predictable. In addition, these drugs are not exempt from causing adverse effects. In this work, a review of contraceptive methods in queens from the beginning of their use is carried out. This review provides relevant information about the usefulness as well as the complexity of contraception in queens, which raises the need to find alternatives that are effective, safe, and predictable.

Palabras clave : contraception; queen; estrous suppression; reproductive control.
