GUTIERREZ DE ANGELIS, Marina. Idolatry, uprooting and resistence in andean religious imagery: XVIIth and XVIII centuries. Iconographic analysis of a Huamanga stone. Andes [online]. 2010, vol.21, n.1. ISSN 1668-8090.
This paper examines the resistence, strategies and transformations in the Andean iconography during the XVIIth and XVIIIth centuries by means of a polychromatic stone carving from Huamanga, that is now in the Isaac Fernández Blanco Museum in Buenos Aires. The stone, an anonymous piece of the XVIIIth century, is an example of the artistic fusion between the unifying power of the European evangelization and the survival of the imaginary of the Prehispanic cultures. The analysis of the images permits us to consider the ways of construction of what can be called time visualities, understood as images and collections of images that are scenified and incorporated into the visual expressions.
