DAVIO, Marisa. Between consensus and "seduction: military commanders and troops in Tucumán during the first half of the nineteenth century. Andes [online]. 2014, vol.25, n.2, pp.00-00. ISSN 1668-8090.

The paper analyzes the command and obedience relationships between military officers and troops during the militarization raised from the revolutionary process in Tucumán. Issues such as respect, recognition or prestige gained by the chiefs, made obedience secured and guaranteed the support of subordinates. Beyond the vertical relationships existing among military men, consensus and negotiation mechanisms were implemented. They were evident in the exchange of favors, allowing the making of political decisions resulting from the scope of power, in a context marked by political instability and the absence of a formally organized State. If such compensation were not met by the authorities the troops had the opportunity to express their disagreement and resistance, through disobedience to authority, disrespect, desertions, mutinies and rebellions.

Palavras-chave : Military officers; Troops; Consensus; Negotiation; Resistance.
