In general terms, critical thinking is understood as the living philosophy spawned from a kind of reasoning which is never satisfied with its own achievements (González, 2005:5). Since the emergence of E. Kant's critical philosophy, several currents boast this description. Leaving this extraordinary deployment aside, the main aim of this contribution is to highlight some recent features and twists of critical thinking in the region. The starting point is the return of democratic governments in the 1980s, particularly the "case" of Argentina. In an attempt to reveal some profound meanings of the developments of philosophy and social sciences, the internal as well as some external factors of philosophy are explained, as they affected the academic and cultural agenda of the time. Thenceforth, the noticeable effects upon the development of thought is explained by considering together the events and situations which effectively brought about a historical change. The propositional section of the contribution starts with the question about the official "oblivion" of Philosophy of Liberation, and the secondary placement given to the chairs and researchers of Latinamerican philosophy, as well as the necessary drift of these studies towards the decolonial and intercultural forms of philosophy and social sciences, which are blooming today, despite the academic and political difficulties which they must face daily
