NIELSEN, Axel E et al. Arqueología del valle de Las Juntas (Guachipas, Salta, Argentina): el contexto microrregional del Cerro Cuevas Pintadas. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.1, pp.83-97. ISSN 1850-373X.  http://dx.doi.org/https://doi.org/10.37176/iea.23.1.2022.666.

Initial results of research aimed at characterizing the ways of life in Las Juntas valley, Guachipas, Salta, and changes undergone during the prehispanic era are presented. This information is crucial for understanding the social contexts of rock art, which is present in different places in the valley and particularly dense in Cerro Cuevas Pintadas (CCP). From the early period onwards (first millennium AD), local populations lived in small villages along water courses, incorporating defensive redoubts during the late period (1000-1500 AD). During the late period, production of rock paintings and the activities associated with them reached their climax, a phenomenon that could relate to the social changes that occurred during this period of turmoil. The Inca conquest seemingly did not change substantially the local lifeways.
