MISTRETTA, Gabriela et al. Total sulphur content of the agricultural residue from the sugar cane harvest in Tucumán, Argentina. Rev. ind. agric. Tucumán [online]. 2019, vol.96, n.1, pp.49-54. ISSN 1851-3018.

To predict the possible corrosive behavior of a solid fuel inside a steam generator it is necessary to analyze the elemental components that will be transformed, during combustion, into acid, soluble and insoluble, highly corrosive components. One of these elements is sulfur (S), which when combined with oxygen (O2) and hydrogen (H2) will form oxides of sulfur (SO2 and SO3) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) respectively, facilitating the mechanisms of corrosion. The agricultural residue of sugarcane harvest of the LCP 85-384 variety, of predominant commercial diffusion in the sugarcane area of the province of Tucumán, was characterized, following the methodology indicated in the ASTM D 3177 standard (ASTM, 2002). Samples were collected from different sugar cane fields in Tucumán. The total sulfur content %S (b.s.) was determined in a range of 0.13% to 0.39%, with an average of 0.23% and one standard deviation (C.V.%) of 27.41%.
