VIZGARRA, Oscar N. et al. TUC 650: new mung bean cultivar for northwestern Argentina. Rev. ind. agric. Tucumán [online]. 2020, vol.97, n.2, pp.11-15. ISSN 1851-3018.

The mung bean [Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek] is a plant species originated in India which is cultivated in different parts of the world. In Argentina, it is produced in the center and northwestern region of the country and currently the only available cultivar is Cristal. The availability of more cultivars with characteristics such as good plant health and high genetic potential would allow yield improvement. The Estación Experimental Agroindustrial Obispo Colombres (EEAOC), through its Dry Legumes Project, started in 2012 the preliminary evaluation of mung bean genotypes. From 2013 through 2019 the genotypes were evaluated in the Monte Redondo Substation, located in San Agustín, Cruz Alta department, Tucumán; in 2019 the location of Pozo Hondo, Santiago del Estero province was added. Parameters evaluated included cycle duration, reaction to diseases and grain quality. One of the genotypes, TUC 650, stood out because it showed en erect architecture, an average yield of 856 kg/ha, good plant health, and excellent grain quality. These results justified the registration of the genotype TUC 650 in INASE as a new mung bean cultivar with the name of TUC 650.
