FERNANDES ARAUJO, Hugo André Flores. Pretended Friends and Covert Enemies: The General Government and the Pernambucana Insurrection (1642-1645). Prohistoria [online]. 2014, vol.21, pp.27-53. ISSN 1851-9504.
The ascension of Bragantine dynasty to the Portuguese throne began a delicate period for Portugal and their conquests dispersed across the overseas. The war against Castilian monarchy threatened the kingdom of D. João IV and the truce treaty signed with the Dutch was not favorable to the Lusitanian crown. We will analyze how the articulation between the general government and the dwellers of Pernambuco enabled the development of an insurrection plan against the Dutch dominion in northeastern Brazil. We will analyze the strategies adopted to achieve the insurrection, which had veiled support of D. João IV
