La Samaritana is one of most well known romances in the hispanic-and non-hispanic- tradition. It s a vulgar romance, repeated almost literally again and again that was traditionalized in some Peninsular areas. This process originated a series of different versions, which, were submitted to the tradition, and survive in variants. Its diffusión was massive mainly because its transmissión in pliegos and the appearance of Christ as a character. The romance narrates an encounter in terms of a lovers meeting, with a series of erotic symbols. This interaction between the romance and lyrics poetics widens and enriches traditional symbol s meaning
