This paper portrays the formation of a security and defense cooperation dynamics in the South American region between 1985 and 2015. This process is analyzed in the form of concentric circles, which imply not only a spatial but also a temporal identification, while understanding that the Argentine-Brazilian alliance that started between 1985 and 1992 was one of the first approaches made to the security cooperation processes, as a space for dialogue and cooperation in the area of regional defense, which was widened and applied during the nineties to the countries of the Southern Cone, until the Union of South American Nations and South American Defense Council were created between 2000 and 2015.
