Plant remains assigned to the genus Neocalamites (Halle) Vladirmirovicz are described for the first time in the Permian of Gondwana. The studied material consists of impressions and compressions from the La Golondrina Formation, Santa Cruz Province. It is represented by ribbed axes and foliar whorls and strobili composed of whorled sporangiophores without bracts. Based on taphonomic evidence and close association both taxa were likely parts of the same plant ( Neocalamites sp.). The inclusion of this taxon in the family Equisetaceae, as well as its phylogenetic relationships as part of the equisetalean clade, are discussed.
