Abstract

ACOSTA HOSPITALECHE, Carolina. Systematic revision of Palaeospheniscus biloculata (Simpson) nov. comb. (Aves, Spheniscidae) from the Gaiman Formation (Early Miocene), Chubut, Argentina. Ameghiniana [online]. 2007, vol.44, n.2, pp.417-426. ISSN 1851-8044.

An articulated skeleton coming from sediments of the Gaiman Formation (Early Miocene), Chubut Province, Argentina assigned to Palaeospheniscus biloculata (Simpson) nov. comb. is described. The original diagnosis of this genus and species is emended. Eretiscus tonnii (Simpson), Palaeospheniscus bergi Moreno and Mercerat, P. patagonicus Moreno and Mercerat and P. biloculata (Simpson) nov. comb. are included in the "Palaeospheniscinae" group, whose distribution is restricted to the Neogene of South America.
