Abstract
SILVA BUSSO, Adrián and FERNANDEZ GARRASINO, César A.. The Piramboia and Botucatú formations (Triassic-Jurassic) in the subsurface of eastern Entre Ríos Province. Rev. Asoc. Geol. Argent. [online]. 2004, vol.59, n.1, pp.141-151. ISSN 0004-4822.
Data mainly from hydrothermal prospecting wells Federación 1, Concordia 1, Villa Elisa 1, and Gualeguaychú 1, and correlation with some exposed stratigraphical sections of the Brazilian Paraná Basin indicate that the subsurface succession of eastern Entre Ríos (Mesopotamia) would include clastic accumulations representative of the Piramboiá Formation (fluviatile; Ladinian - Jurassic) and Botucatú Formation (mainly eolian; Jurassic pre-Late neo-Jurassic). These subsurface clastic sections of eastern Entre Ríos may also represent the Tacuarembó Formation (fluviatile; Ladinian - Jurassic) and Rivera Formation (eolian; Jurassic, pre-Late neo-Jurassic) of Uruguay, and Misiones Formation (fluviatile and eolian; Ladinian - Early neo-Jurassic) of Paraguay. The potential for hydrothermal exploitation and subterranean storage of natural gas in Entre Ríos, Corrientes, and Misiones is discussed.
Keywords : Entre Ríos; Piramboia; Botucatú Formations.
