Abstract
PONCE, J.F. and MARTINEZ, O.. Discovery of post-Cretacoeus sedimentary deposits in Bahía Crossley, Isla de los Estados, Tierra del Fuego. Rev. Asoc. Geol. Argent. [online]. 2007, vol.62, n.3, pp.467-470. ISSN 0004-4822.
A post-Cretaceous sedimentary rocks outcrop has been found in Bahía Crossley (54°48'16"S and 64°41'3.8"W) in the north-western part of the island. The lower contact with the folded strata of the Beauvoir Formation (Late Jurassic-Early Cretaceous) is represented by an angular unconformity. These new deposit could be correlated with the Tertiary continental strata of the Punta Cactus and Bahía Sloggett Formations, Bahía Sloggett (54°59'34"S and 66°19'57"W), Tierra del Fuego. There is not enough available information yet to provide a precise age of these new outcrops, although they are younger than the folding of the Beauvoir Formation (Late Cretaceous). We present the principal characteristics of these beds and the implications of this discovery for the regional geological history.
