Abstract

BERTOLA, Germán R.; CORTIZO, Luis C.  and  ISLA, Federico I.. Coastal littoral dynamics of Tres Arroyosand San Cayetano, Buenos Aires. Rev. Asoc. Geol. Argent. [online]. 2009, vol.64, n.4, pp.657-671. ISSN 0004-4822.

Coastal erosion ofBuenos Aires Province isoriginated in general by natural causes, but sometimes is produced by antropiccauses. In San Cayetano y Tres Arroyos counties, coastal problems areconcentrated in touristic villages and their beaches. Dunes fixation inBalneario San Cayetano or their afforestation in Claromecó, Reta and Orense, have provoked significant sand accumulation on top of former cliffs, theobstruction of some small inlets and the dissactivation of dune ramps (frombeaches to the top of the cliffs). By the mean of morphologic andsedimentologic characterizations the worse impact sites were identified. Due tograss colonisation, transverse dunes have changed into parabolic profiles. However, dune fixation problems remain in Balneario San Cayetano and Dunamar inClaromecó. Tres Arroyos beaches are the most extended of this coastline, andparticularly in Claromecó present more sand variability. At the inlets of theQuequén Salado and Claromecó creeks, and the interval between the CristianoMuerto creek and Balneario San Cayetano, the greater variations of thecoastline were surveyed. Comparing grain-size samplings spanned 45 yearsbetween them, no significant beach changes in the sand were recognised.
