Resumen

SALES, Daniel A.  y  COSTA, Carlos H.. Geometric analysis of the fractures of the uplift front of the Sierra de San Luis. Rev. Asoc. Geol. Argent. [online]. 2010, vol.67, n.4, pp.450-460. ISSN 0004-4822.

In order to address new issues regarding the fractures that characterize the western and northern margins of the Sierra de San Luis, where the Andean uplift has been concentrated, a population of 975 faults with preserved slickenlines was surveyed. Such data were analyzed through a software for calculating the proportional participation of each component of the total slip vector, through strike, dip and slickenline rake data. At the northern range front, fault data show a strong imposition of the longitudinal horizontal component (L), despite the variety of fault attitudes in space. A similar situation was observed at the western front, although a segmentation of its trace was established due to different proportional relationships among the horizontal longitudinal (L), horizontal transversal (T) and vertical (V) slip components. These results highlight the significant participation of the horizontal longitudinal component in the global deformation of the massif. However, the role of strike-slip movements in the uplift and deformation of this Pampean block are yet to be quantified.
