Abstract

ALONSO, Ricardo N.. Amadeo R. Sirolli (1900-1981): Promoter of the paleontological studies in Salta and the Foundation of the National University of Salta. Rev. Asoc. Geol. Argent. [online]. 2011, vol.68, n.3, pp.322-328. ISSN 0004-4822.

Professor Amadeo Rodolfo Sirolli was a vertebrate paleontologist that started the studies of Cenozoic mammal vertebrate paleontology in Salta in 1950. Sirolli was a founder of numerous institutions in the province of Salta like the School of Natural Sciences with the careers of Geology and Biology, the Faculty of Natural Sciences depending from the University of Tucumn, and finally he put the basal stone of the National University of Salta. Besides paleontology, he was an encyclopedic man with interest in multiple fields of science and culture. He made many contributions to history, archeology, anthropology, philosophy, literature, journalism, and other subjects. Also, he is an author of an extensive bibliography of more than hundred articles, notes, books and papers. In 1973 he was designated Honorary Professor of the University of Tucumn.
