Abstract

MALUMIN, Norberto. History of the idea of a geographical space named Continental Platform. Rev. Asoc. Geol. Argent. [online]. 2011, vol.68, n.3, pp.407-414. ISSN 0004-4822.

The naturalists Martn Doello-Jurado and Juan Jos Ngera, supported by the Education Minister Antonio Sagarna, have a relevant role in attempting to persuade conscience of the geographic meaning of the Continental Platform and the Epicontinental Argentine sea within the change of the teaching contents of the secondary school Geography subject in the first decades of the twentieth century. Considered as the first oceanographer and geologist of nationalist action, respectively, they -all born in the Entre Ros province, and mostly former pupils of the first non-religious secondary school in Argentina, the Concepcin del Uruguay College- have the merit of having supported theirs convictions by all the means at hand despite of heavy criticism.

Keywords : Martn Doello-Jurado; Juan Jos Ngera; Argentine Epicontinental Sea; Continental Platform.
