Even though there are previous studies made in talc deposits from Salamanca mining district in the province of Mendoza, most of them are related with genesis, structure and geological setting. In several of them, the presence of serpentine and amphiboles in country rocks and ores is mentioned. The last ones were determined by their mineralogical characteristics and optical properties but they were not evaluated according to the influence of environmental passives in dumps, taking account mainly the dispersion in the exogenous environment. For many years, talc mining in the province of Mendoza was very important, performed mainly on underground. The miners were exposed to dust generated during the exploitation, constituted by particulate material, some of it, morphologically asbestiform. The object of this work is to study the morphology of amphiboles from Salamanca district and the influence of its degradation due to exogenous natural processes and by plant treatments. The evaluation is made from the point of view of the risk they represent to human health.
