Resumen

PAEZ, María Solange; MOREIRAS, Stella Maris; BRENNING, Alexander  y  GIAMBIAGI, Laura. Flujos de detritos y aluviones históricos en la cuenca del río Blanco (32°55'-33°10' y 69°10'-69°25'), Mendoza. Rev. Asoc. Geol. Argent. [online]. 2013, vol.70, n.4, pp.488-498. ISSN 0004-4822.

The Blanco River basin has an arid climate characterized by a mean annual precipitation of 400 mm. High-intensity, shortduration rainfall events, which are concentrated during the summer months, often act as triggering mechanism for mud and debris flows in the Cordón del Plata, and cause stream flow variations of the Blanco River due to an extraordinary sediment contribution. Information on the occurrence of debris flows and floods reported between 1942 and 2001 in the Blanco River basin was compiled and analyzed based on newspaper reports and data provided by residents, rainfall measurements from the area and years with climatic anomalies, attempting to establish the minimum rainfall required to destabilize these slopes. Between 1942 and 1982, 18 debris floods were reported being the most important episodes those occurred in 1960, 1967, 1970, and 1982. The years associated with two events were 1954, 1967, 1982, and 1993, but more hazardous debris flows occurred during the warm phase of the ENSO, "El Niño".
