GALLARD-ESQUIVEL, María Cecilia et al. Análisis litofacial y mineralización epitermal asociada en el prospecto puesto Olguín, La Carolina, San Luis. Rev. Asoc. Geol. Argent. [online]. 2015, vol.72, n.2, pp.210-218. ISSN 0004-4822.

Puesto Olguín prospect is located in the central-eastern La Carolina volcanic field, belonging to the San Luis Tertiary Volcanic Belt. Lithofacies analysis has been carried out, combining field work and data from subsurface cores. The sequence of volcaniclastic and lava facies show an initial hydromagmatic explosive activity followed by the emplacement of domes and associated lava flows. The mineralization in core samples from 161 meters-deep drill hole consists of pyrite, pyrrhotite, melnickovite, marcasite, galena, sphalerite, chalcopyrite, tennantita-tetraedrita, covellite, goethite, quartz and calcite. Mineral chemistry data have allowed to identify the minerals hosting the Au and Ag as well as to determine a vertical chemical zonation of the Fe, Zn, Ag, and Bi contents. According to the characteristic geochemical signatures of the ores, textures, and volcanic setting, the Puesto Olguin mineralization have been classified as a low-sulfidation base metal sulfide-rich, gold and silver epithermal deposit.
