Abstract

XIFREDA, Cecilia C.  and  MALLO, Andrea C.. The argentinian species of the genus Glechon (Lamiaceae: Mentheae). Darwiniana [online]. 2004, vol.42, n.1-4, pp.333-346. ISSN 0011-6793.

Glechon (Lamiaceae, Mentheae tribe) is a South American genus with nearly 9 species distributed in southern Brasil (Minas Gerais State), northeastern Argentina in the province of Corrientes (Departments Santo Tomé and Ituzaingó), the southern portion of Paraguay, and Uruguay. Glechon is represented in Argentina by four species from Corrientes and Misiones. The presence of Glechon ciliata and G. thymoides is discussed, and G. marifolia and G. spathulata are new records for the argentinian flora. Morphological and anatomical characters were studied by light and scanning electron microscopy. Geographical distribution, pollen and mericarp micromorphology, synonymy, neotypification, botanical descriptions, key to species and illustrations were also provided.

Keywords : Glechon; Mentheae; Lamiaceae; Neotypes; Micromorphology; Floristics; Argentina.
