Abstract

GARRALLA, Silvina; MURUAGA, Nora B  and  CUADRADO, Graciela. Pollen Morphology of Argentinean species of Rebutia s. str. (Cactaceae, Cactoideae). Darwiniana [online]. 2008, vol.46, n.2, pp.270-278. ISSN 0011-6793.

This work analyzes pollen characteristics of Rebutia deminuta, R. fabrisii var. fabrisii, R. fabrisii var. aureiflora, R. fiebrigii, R. marsoneri, R. minuscula subsp. minuscula, R. minuscula subsp. wessneriana and R. padcayensis to provide data that allow species delimitation. Pollen samples were collected in different mountain localities of northwestern Argentina. Observations, counts and measures of pollen grains were carried out under optical (MO) and scanning electron microscopy (MEB). Results show that Rebutia is a stenopalynous genus; pollen grains are apolar or isopolar, radiosymmetric, mediumsized (32-55 µm), circular to subcircular; tricolpate or pantocolpate; with textate, perforate and nanoechinate exine. Differences among taxa are discussed, and a palinological key is presented.

Keywords : Argentina; Cactaceae; Cactoideae; Pollen; Rebutia.
