Abstract

IMBERTI, Santiago; STURZENBAUM, Silvina M.  and  MCNAMARA, Martina. Actualization of the winter distribution of the Hooded Grebe (Podiceps gallardoi), with notes on its conservation. Hornero [online]. 2004, vol.19, n.2, pp.83-89. ISSN 0073-3407.

Results of counts and searches of new wintering locations of the Hooded Grebe (Podiceps gallardoi) during 1998-2004 are presented, confirming its permanent presence at the Atlantic coast. The importance of the Gallegos River estuary as the second known wintering ground is ratified. The southern part of the Atlantic coast of Santa Cruz, south of bahía San Julián, and the Pacific coast of Chile, south of the X Región, were surveyed. Data and observations regarding the biology of the species and its conservation problems are also presented.

Keywords : Atlantic coast; Conservation; Podiceps gallardoi; Winter grounds.
