Abstract

LOPEZ-LANUS, Bernabé  and  ZALAZAR, Sofía. Descripción del canto de proclamación territorial del Hocó Oscuro (Tigrisoma fasciatum). Hornero [online]. 2015, vol.30, n.1, pp.13-20. ISSN 0073-3407.

Description of the territorial proclamation song of the Fasciated Tiger-Heron (Tigrisoma fasciatum).- We describe the territorial proclamation song of the Fasciated Tiger-Heron (Tigrisoma fasciatum), unknown until now, and compare it with the territorial proclamation song of the Rufescent Tiger-Heron (Tigrisoma lineatum). We also describe other similar vocalizations of the latter species. Both species present a similar territorial proclamation song with the first notes ascending, finishing with a mooing very similar to that of cows. The first notes in the vocalization of Tigrisoma fasciatum are issued in pairs, with a final accentuation in each pair, whereas Tigrisoma lineatum executes isolated, ever-ascending notes. We show that both species are capable of mooing and we discuss the implications with respect to the commonly used Spanish and Portuguese names.

Keywords : Fasciated Tiger-Heron; Rufescent Tiger-Heron; Song; Sounds; Tigrisoma fasciatum; Tigrisoma lineatum.
