Abstract
ECHEVERRIA VACA, Gabriela and GARZON SANTOMARO, César. Evaluación preliminar de las poblaciones de Pyrrhura orcesi en remanentes boscosos de la provincia de El Oro, Ecuador. Hornero [online]. 2016, vol.31, n.2, pp.121-124. ISSN 0073-3407.
El Oro Parakeet (Pyrrhura orcesi) is an endangered, endemic species of Ecuador. The main threat to the species is habitat fragmentation. We evaluated the abundance of Pyrrhura orcesi in three unprotected areas located in cloud forests from El Oro Province through direct observations and auditory records at fixed counting points. We recorded a maximum number of 254 individuals for the three areas. The relative abundance was similar in the three areas. Abundance was not related with forest cover. Our results show the value of these forest remnants in the study area, in which Pyrrhura orcesi can persist despite having no protection.
