Resumen
ROSSO, Cintia N y PAUTASSO, Andrés. Aves y mocovíes: una mirada a sus relaciones en el siglo XVIII en la región del Gran Chaco meridional a partir de fuentes jesuitas. Hornero [online]. 2017, vol.32, n.1, pp.151-164. ISSN 0073-3407.
The aim of this work is to analyze the relations that the mocovíes had with the birds of their environment in the southern portion of the Argentine Gran Chaco region. We characterized some of the domains or cultural areas in which bird species are represented in the historical sources produced by the Jesuits, both those who missioned among these indigenous populations between 1743-1767 and those who elaborated the history of this religious order in the area. We found 43 ethnospecies of birds that can be linked to the space inhabited by the mocovíes. Most of them could be identified at the species level. We recorded nine categories of use, the main ones being food, the function as advertisers, the material culture and trade. We conclude that birds occupied a place of great importance in the life of the mocovíes. In particular, the role of the Ñandú (Rhea americana) is highlighted, which is associated to almost all cultural areas analyzed.
